Where to place your QR poster

Printing tips
The file is in A4 high-resolution format (300 dpi): it prints sharply up to A3 size. Choose thick paper (200 gsm and above) and a matte finish to avoid glare that disrupts scanning.

Creating a QR code: what you need to know
A QR code is simply an address written in black and white. When a phone reads it, it opens what it contains: most often a web page, but also text, a number, a WiFi network, or a contact card. There is no account to create, no service to pay to make one.
What really matters is what's behind it. A QR code points to an address: if that address stops working, the code becomes useless, even if perfectly printed. That's why it's better to point it to a durable service than to a temporary sharing link.
What a QR code can contain
A web address, free text, WiFi network credentials, a business card, a phone number, or a pre-filled email. The shorter the content, the simpler the design, and the faster it scans. Beyond three hundred characters, the code becomes dense, and reading requires a closer phone and better light.
Static or dynamic QR code: which to choose
A static QR code contains the address directly. It works forever, depends on no service, and no one can disable it. However, the address is embedded in the design: changing it requires reprinting.
A dynamic QR code uses a redirect, allowing you to change the destination after printing and count scans. The downside is real: if the redirect service closes, expires, or switches to a paid plan, all your printed codes stop working at once. This is the most common surprise with free generators.
For an event, a static code pointing to a stable address is the safest choice: nothing to renew, nothing that expires, and the printed poster remains valid until the big day. The codes generated here are static.
What size should a printed QR code be
The rule used in printing is simple: the side of the code should be about one-tenth of the reading distance. A code read at fifty centimeters, on a table card, should be four to five centimeters. The same code read at two meters, on an entrance poster, needs twenty centimeters.
Always keep a white margin around the code, about four modules, or the width of four small squares. Without it, the camera can no longer distinguish the edges, and reading fails. Also avoid placing it on a photo or colored background: the contrast between the dark squares and the light background is what makes reading possible.
A QR code that won't scan: the causes
In almost all cases, the fault lies with one of these five points: the code is printed too small for the reading distance, the white margin is missing, the paper is glossy and reflects lighting, the contrast is insufficient (light code on dark background or colors too close), or the contained address has become invalid.
A two-minute test avoids most issues: scan the printed code with two different phones, including an older model, in the actual lighting of the location. This is the only check that matters, and it's the one most often forgotten before printing a hundred copies.
